With the rollout of ambitious vaccination programmes in the UK or elsewhere and increasing co-operation between vaccine manufacturers and governments, as well as the planned introduction of vaccine passports, there is finally a light in the tunnel for everyone; particularly for those keen to book their luxury yachting holidays. Sailing and long-term charters are perfect to self-isolate …
In recent news, UK has confirmed that more than 10 million of its citizens have now received first shot of a vaccine, with the one from AstraZeneca reported to significantly reduce new infections. In Europe, the EU Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, supports the introduction of an EU vaccine certificate. “It is a medical requirement to have a certificate proving that you have been vaccinated,” she said after the Greek Prime Minister urged the EU to introduce such a document. Greece has recently announced the opening of it’s borders for citizens of the UK and a few other countries. Booking a charter in the East Med seems a great idea now with Turkey also having performed much better in stemming the covid-19 infections than other Mediterranean countries.
“It is urgent to adopt a common understanding on how a vaccination certificate should be structured so as to be accepted in all Member States,” Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis wrote in a letter to the EU Commission last week for example. Recent news about the Covid vaccine outlines the governments plan to vaccinate at least 8 million people per month, the link is: Government publishes plan for the largest vaccination programme in British history | Politic Mag. At this rate we would reach the 60% ‘herd immunity’ required to slow the spread of the virus significantly within 3-4 months, we would be at around 30% sometime in March which is when the government is hoping to end the lockdown and ease travel restrictions.
For that reason, we are now offering additional early booking discounts as many more people are now booking their yacht charter holidays. Apart from Greece, several European countries are now introducing exemptions for travellers who hold a vaccine certificate. With tourism taking such a colossal hit from the pandemic, governments are keen to get their economies moving again and they see a vaccine passport as the way to do it.Poland is now allowing visitors who have a vaccine certificate to enter the country without restrictions. Likewise Denmark, Estonia and Iceland are looking to introduce the measure. And on Tuesday, Spain’s Tourism Minister, Reyes Maroto, announced that the country will be following suit.’
According to Time Out: ‘Some countries have already announced they will allow vaccinated arrivals to skip quarantine. From March, travellers to Cyprus who have received the jab will be exempt from testing and self-isolation requirements. And Seychelles is already allowing vaccinated people to enter without having to quarantine.’ While we do not offer yacht charters in some of these countries, it is of great interest to us to see these positive news as that can only mean one thing; more flights, more countries opening up for the summer 2022 and more luxury yacht charter deals being offer.
In terms of other sailing destinatons, there are various other cruising grounds worldwide which do not require tourists to quarantine on arrival, they include sunny Caribbean destinations such as St Martin, the Bahamas, Antigua, Barbados, Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands. We expect to get a huge rush of people booking at the end of lockdown, so please do not delay claiming your early booking discount.
